Star Wars Quotes From The Novelizations Revenge Of The Sith And The Last Jedi

I've been a connoisseur of movie novelizations since I was young (the Van Helsing copy got destroyed from how much I read it) - here are some of my favorite parts of the two best novelizations from the prequels and sequels!

Revenge of the Sith

  • “A pair of starfighters. Jedi starfighters. Only two. Two is enough.
Two is enough because the adults are wrong, and their younglings are right.
Though this is the end of the age of heroes, it has saved its best for last.”
  • This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever: The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain. The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew upon your flesh. You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. You don’t even have lungs anymore. Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever.
  • You loved her. You will always love her. You could never will her death. Never. But you remember... You remember all of it. You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth- And there is one blazing moment in which you understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Anakin Skywalker. That it was all you. Is you. Only you. You did it. You killed her. You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself... It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith- Because now your self is all you ever will have.
  • "The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins—but in the heart of its strength lies weakness: one lone candle is enough to hold it back. Love is more than a candle. Love can ignite the stars"

The Last Jedi

  • “Snoke's escape shuttle is gone," the general replied. Kylo considered that. Rey had recovered first. She must have realized he was at her mercy, yet she'd left him alive.
Almost as if she cared for him.”
  • But Luke sensed that Kylo Ren was just a shell around the same broken boy he had tried so hard to reach.”
  • "You are a monster," Rey said, remembering the terror of her paralysis on Takodana.
She stared back at him -- and found his. eyes full of hurt. Hurt -- and conflict.
"Yes, I am," Kylo said, and there was no menace in his voice -- only misery.”
  • “The connection between them was so raw and powerful that it reminded her of touching a live wire in the wreckage of a starship. She had closed her eyes, opened them, and found Kylo Ren there--right next to her where she sat on the stone bench. As if she could actually reach out and touch his hand, his face, his hair.”
  • Rey found herself in his mind even as he invaded hers. She felt his rage, like a ruinous storm that filled his head, and his hatred, and his lust to dominate and humiliate those who wronged him. But she also felt his hurt, and his loneliness. And his fear -- that he would never prove as strong as Darth Vader, the ghost who haunted his dreams.”
  • R2-D2 squawked derisively. “Hey, sacred island,” Luke said. “Watch the language.”
  • “For a moment Kylo let himself recall his parents’ worried conversations behind closed doors, the ones they’d deluded themselves into thinking he wouldn’t know about. Conversations about the anger and resentment that had boiled over once again in their son. Conversations in which they talked about him like he wasn’t their son, but some kind of monster.”
  • “She wondered if she should have asked about the dozen porgs perched on the dashboard, watching the Wookiee work—or the porg that had been sitting companionably on his hairy shoulder.”
  • “Ben Solo had performed the role Snoke had envisioned for him perfectly. The combination of his potential and the danger he posed had lured Skywalker into seeking to rebuild the Jedi. His power had then destroyed all Skywalker had built and sent the failed Jedi Master into exile, removing him from the board just as the game entered a critical phase.”
  • “The Force is not a power you have,” Luke said. “It’s not about lifting rocks. It’s the energy between all things—a tension, a balance that binds the universe together.”
  • “Alderaan was a debris field now, along with Mon Cala and Chandrila—all destroyed by the battle station that had burned out the infections of Separatism and rebellion, leaving the galaxy at peace. Or at least free of conflict. That was the same thing, or near enough.”
